Our Story – From One Cab in Cork to Tours All Across Ireland

Back in 2004, Bob McAuliffe founded About Cork Taxi Tours with a simple goal: to share the stories, scenery, and spirit of Cork with visitors arriving by cruise ship. What started as one taxi and a love of local history quickly grew into a favourite for those seeking personal service, flexible itineraries, and tours led by friendly, knowledgeable local taxi driver-guides.

Behind the scenes in those early years—and for many more to come—was Janice Bent, the quiet powerhouse who helped shape the business into what it is today. From logistics to customer care, Janice made sure everything ran like clockwork until 2020. While she now runs her own thriving  business, Orchid Cottage Crafts, we’re lucky that she still consults with us and remains a valued part of the AITT family.

By 2019, growing demand from returning guests and international travellers led to the launch of About Ireland Taxi Tours, now the largest taxi tour company in Ireland. We offer custom tours, day tours, intercity transfers, and transfer tours nationwide—from the Wild Atlantic Way to Dublin, Belfast, and beyond.

Now in 2025, we’re bringing things full circle with the relaunch of About Cork Taxi Day Tours—a service designed specifically for cruise ship passengers docking in Cork. While Cork is still our heart, we’re proud to now operate from every major cruise port in Ireland, offering authentic, private, and comfortable day tours no matter where you come ashore.

Behind it all is a small but mighty team: Bob, Jenny, and Keith, working closely with a trusted network of over 70 professional taxi driver-guides, including 26 wheelchair-accessible minibuses. Together, we’re here to make sure your tour runs smoothly—and ends with a smile.

Our mission today is the same as it was in 2004:
